Chemie Chemie Ya (English translation)

English translation

Chemistry chemistry ya

Dude you've got blood coming out of your nose,
Off the face and straight onto the street.
Flown too much, snorted too much
Look, the problems, so small from up here.
MDMA, Amphetamine
I've heard that's how they do it in Berlin.
I've not slept in days - am I in love?
Or is the fast pulse actually from the speed?
The hashish is filled with lead, whatever,
Put it in the bong
I take everything I can get my hands on
I've grown ten metres, the world is Lego
The city is too small for me and my ego
And no night for anyone,
No night for me
Because I'm still awake
And I'm just waiting for you
I can't cope,
I don't get along with anyone anymore
Are you coming?
Chemistry chemistry yeah, chemistry ya, chemistry yay
Chemistry chemistry, chemistry chemistry (x4)
The owls come out when the sun sets
Thirty degrees in the shade but eveything is covered in snow
I need to talk to you even if you don't understand me.
Do you know if it's still after hours anywhere?
I'm hanging around drooling like Jabba the Hutt
A bitter taste is running down my throat
What's happening? The pills wake you up
The whole city is wearing sunglasses at night
And I'm fine, if you're looking for me
I'm in withdrawal or under a train
I've been dancing for hours, I'm dancing alone
But wait man, the bassline is about to drop!
Chemistry chemistry yeah, chemistry ya, chemistry yay
Chemistry chemistry, chemistry chemistry (x4)
And no night for anyone,
No night for me
Because I'm still awake
And I'm just waiting for you
I can't cope,
I don't get along with anyone anymore
Are you coming?
Chemistry chemistry yeah, chemistry ya, chemistry yay
Chemistry chemistry, chemistry chemistry (x4)
Chemistry chemistry, chemistry chemistry (x4)

Author's comments:

So kids, after a lot of research I finally found the meaning of "die Platte voller Blei"! So I've made the correction and now it makes more sense.
- According to the Internet, hashish is sold as a compact solid, formed into discs - that is "Platte". And often they are laced with lead (and other impurities) in order to make one batch go further. I guess like adding sugar to cocaine.

Word correction:
>"Guck, die Probleme am Boden so klein von hier oben" =
Guck, die Probleme, so klein von hier oben

Corrected according to official video

>"Thirty degrees in the shade but eveything is covered in snow"
maybe better:
"Thirty degrees in the shade but eveything is full of snow"
("Schnee" is a code word for cocaine in the drug scene)

>"Weißt du vielleicht ob irgendwo noch Afterhour geht?"
I believe by "Afterhour" they mean to go on partying in a club after the official closing hour

I know what Schnee means, and that's why I chose covered.. as in the tables etc are covered in white powder. Goes with the metaphor...

Changed this. Obviously I know what it means as Afterhour is Denglisch but it was sort of difficult to translate as we don't have this word in English? Is it an actual term in German?

Dear Hayley, will you, pls, synchronize the layout of the lyrics and your translation? They must look identical.
I've changed Dicker into Digga as they both mean the same but the latter is more to the song style. Besides, I removed the misplaced question mark. Modern rappers don't care for punctuation anyway. The phrase in question, IMHO, goes like this:

I've not slept in days - am I in love,
Or is the fast pulse actually from the speed,
The wheel plate full of lead, whatever, off to the bong.

Regards, Regular smile

With all respect, dear Nadia, but they clearly say "Dicker" not "Digga"

To me the format Hayley has put her translation is synchronized.
There's no need to repeat all the repeats, IMO.
The lack of punctuation in German HipHop lyrics is a nuisance, IMO.
In German proper punctuation in many details is essentially to understand the meaning correctly,
not to mention esthetics.

With kind regards
Wink smile

Ok, we'll have to agree to disagree on that, I was rather with Nadia on.
I also think they're synchronised? I'm not OCD but I think it's ok
Yup right there with you on the punctuation thing. Sometimes in German if I'm being lazy I won't put punctuation in and then I'll read it back and struggle haha.

Hayley, this "die Platte" thing still puzzles me. At first I thought that was about a wheel cover or a hubcap but they are made of steel or plastic. A floppy disc, a microchip, an LP? - Not highly likely. Then I browsed the German net and bumped into a renovation program called "Die Platte lebt". Die Platte is a nickname for a hideous-looking block of flats left over from the times of DDR. I remember some coverage in the media that the materials used in such buildings were harmful to health. Is it possible that he sings he's feeling bad because he lives in one of such buildings? It might be quite a stretch though.

That's so interesting! And it's an interesting theory. I just checked Genius to see if anything is said there about the line and there's this suggestion...

"Drogen werden auf dem Weg zum Konsumenten gerne von Zwischenhändlern bzw. Dealern gestreckt, um einen höheren Gewinn zu erzielen.
Marihuana wird häufig nicht nur mit Sand, Zucker, Gewürze sondern auch mit Blei gestreckt. Blei ist allerdings sehr gesundheitsschädlich und kann bei einer hohen Konzentration zu einer Vergiftung führen.

Deutscher Hanfverband – Streckmittel in Marihuana

I mean, I still have no clue how to translate this. I'd go for "disc" with a lengthy annotation I guess if this is what is meant, and to be fair I think it makes a lot of sense in this context since the next thing he says is let's get the bong. Wow I just learnt a lot. The world is weeeeird.

Congrats, Hayley! That plate of pressed hemp sounds the right thing to me! Excellent find. So "voller" stands for "filled with" rather than "full". Why don't you translate it as it is "The hemp plate stretched with lead" and a small footnote.

Anyway, you've done your homework so well! Thank you! Regular smile

hayley_hdb    Wed, 11/07/2018 - 14:02

I'm gonna go with hashish Regular smile As I say seriously, I've learnt a lot hahah

hayley_hdb    Tue, 10/07/2018 - 13:16

Also "With all (due) respect, dear Nadia" is SO patronising! Just fyi

sandring    Tue, 10/07/2018 - 10:37

As you say, dear Hansi. You're the boss in the German domain. I'm just a passer-by. Regular smile

sandring    Tue, 10/07/2018 - 10:48

The lyrics edited.
