Who is your favorite arist (singer, composer, actor, writer etc...)?
By far my favorite artist is Julio Iglesias. Weekend visits to record shops here in New York City years before the advent of the Internet were a favorite pastime of mine for the many records in other languages of Julio's I could always expect to find. Gradually I became interested in foreign languages thanks to his music. Though any artist who can sing in at least one foreign language I especially enjoy listening to.
J. R. R. Tolkien!
Oh, and Quentin Tarantino

Mina, and Italians as a whole when in comes to music I think.
My favorite singer/writer has got to be Keisuke Matsukawa, LACCO TOWER's vocalist. Not only is his voice quite unique, but his writing is also beautiful; the way he uses the Japanese language to his advantage when conveying what he wants to say in his lyrics/stories/poems is just delightful and makes every tiny detail feel like a ride.
Aside from him, I also find Yasunari Kawabata's work quite enjoyable - the way he describes the setting in his stories is simply breathtaking (for example, while reading Snow Country I could almost feel the fresh, cold air of the mountains blowing in my face and it was a magical experience) and how each and every single character influence one another so naturally and according to the flow of the story makes me love getting lost among the pages in his books.
Songwriter: Fabrizio De André
Composers: Ludovico Einaudi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Painter: René Magritte
Writers: Fyodor Dostoevsky, Dario Fo, Alexandre Dumas (father), ....though I haven't read them all through, so this is a pretty incomplete list...
Music: Michael Jackson and his family
Lyrics: Robert Smith of The Cure
Writers: Karl May, George R. R. Martin, Petra Hammesfahr, the early works of Stephen King, Anne Rice
Actors: Klaus Kinski, Errol Flynn, Bette Davis, Meryl Streep
I love unique and unusual personalities
I really like Neffex, THCF, Coby, Enrique Iglesias and Nikolija .
For me, the trouble with the idea of just one favourite artist doesn't work. Even if you restrict to one sort of artist (eg a singer) it still doesn't work.
I don't think Ferruccio Tagliavini would be any good at singing Irish folksongs, but for singing tenor roles in Italian operas he is one of the three best singers on record and he is my favourite Italian opera tenor. I can't imaging how awful my friend Sean MacGuiness would be at singing Italian opera, but he led a first class band of singers of traditional Irish songs, and is my favourite singer of Irish songs in English - and for Irish songs sung in Irish, my favourite is Ciaran Bourke. A single favourite singer makes no sense.
My favourite song-writer could be one of Georges Brassens, Murchadh MacPharlain, Robert Burns, Hamish Henderson, and Françoise Hardy, Iain MacIllEathain - or maybe someone else as I also like a lot of Spanish, Italian, German, Catalan, Italian and Irish songs and haven't included any writer of those in the list so far. there have been an awful lot of good songwriters, by these are people who wrote very different sorts of songs in three four different different languages, some did both lyrics and melody, some wrote lyrics for existing tunes, some wrote and published poetry that someone else (later) set to music. A single favourite song-writer makes no sense.
Most of the people I've named are dead, only 2 of the 10 are alive (I hope it's 2, but I haven't had news of Sean in the last 16 months so it may be only 1), but I guess death doesn't disqualify someone from being a favourite artist.
