Mari Pokinen - No näed (English translation)

English translation

Now You See

The first watery flake of snow doesn´t notice while falling on the ground
That it has waked the winter a bit too early
I hoped for some long days more
hoped to see you once more again
I wanted that my legs wouldn´t get wet from snow yet
Now I stand in the lap of snow,
still-still looking upwards
I smile when I feel that there is a little bit cold inside me
White nights are long gone, I haven´t seen traces of you.
This winter I´ll probably (keep) look(ing) for [your] traces in snow

Now you see*
we have it snowing here but it will melt
then traces can´t be seen
Now you see
maybe it´s good this way when there is snow now
But traces, traces should be blown by the wind.

New winters pass,
Some of them harsh, some mild
There is white pure cotton crunching under feet
But when the snow melts, water purls in trenches
I won´t/don´t see anything else besides my reflection in the water
Again I´m walking along the trail, still-still looking down
I gather up traces, a few that are still there.
Hands in pockets I wait for snow, walking for two hours or one
Why do I have to look for you?

Now you see*
we have it snowing here but it will melt
then traces can´t be seen
Now you see
maybe it´s good this way when there is snow now
But traces, traces should be blown by the wind.

The wind blows (it) away..
Hmm
The wind blows (it) away...
But what should I do when there is no wind?

Now you see...

The same goes for reusing parts of my translations in your own (parallel) translations. Id est: it is forbidden. (If a translation is IYO slightly wrong, I'd be glad if commented or PMed.)
If you want to translate my translation into a third language or use it as a basis, you are welcome. Especially if you do it on this website. Just be so kind and mention it and me. :) You can also notify me (in addition, it would make me recheck my work and maybe find errors that you wouldn't copy then) but you don't have to.

Most of my translations are works in progress. One never knows when a revelation can strike. One word: recheck.

Author's comments:

* sounds like 'got´cha, told ya, in your face!', meaning-wise, somewhat gloating, probably upon herself.
"No" is like a word of nagging, could as well be translated as "well". (= Well, now you see)
